2-4 Tbls. Olive Oil
1 medium sweet onion (chopped)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
2 lbs ground beef
2 8oz. cans tomato sauce
1 6oz. can tomato paste
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
1 Tbls. dried Basil
1/2 pound *sliced & sauteed mushrooms (optional)
Pepper to taste
Saute chopped onion in olive oil until onions are somewhat opaque.
Add minced garlic and saute 1-2 minute more until softened (not browned).
Add ground beef, and brown & stir to crumble.
When browned, add all other ingredients plus a sauce can full of water.
Cook slowly until thickened, up to 3 hours, adding more water along the way and cooking back down.
(Italian sausage added, is a treat!-brown with beef)
*I add 1/2 lb sliced, sauteed mushrooms while simmering and sometimes some red wine from fridge!
Serve with Garlic Bread and a Tossed Green Salad.
